Krishna Mehta – Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012 Best Collections

We’ve got a fashion confession to make: we’ve been counting down the days to Krishna Mehta’s runway show ever since we saw her name on the designer list for Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012. And Krishna’s latest collection reminds us why we’ve been crazy about her since she first hit the Indian fashion scene: her clothes are the epitome of everyday elegance.

From the rosy colors and romantic silhouettes to the carefully hand-crafted textiles and beehive-inspired up-dos, each look in Krishna Mehta’s new Encore collection had us feeling her unique take on retro elegance. It’s not easy to create a composed collection with colors as scattered on the color wheel as crème, peach, red, purple and black, but Krishna manages to tie each look together effortlessly. The common threads are her signature textiles, luscious layering, and those gorgeous headpieces wrapped throughout each model’s modified beehive hairdo.

One of the looks we’re dying to wear from the Encore collection is this super chic separates pairing featuring an ethereal white lace dress, voluminous pants and an embroidered gold cap-sleeve jacket. It’s a gorgeous layered look that reminds us of Chanel in the best way possible. We’re also feeling the slimming, modern silhouette on this floor-length red jacket. From its mandarin neckline to its intricate embroidery, it’s an absolute stunner for Fall 2012.

You definitely get a sense of Krishna’s versatility from the colors and textures in her Encore collection, but her talent doesn’t stop there: Not only does she make stunning women’s garments, but she keeps Indian men looking sharp, too! Her sherwanis and kurtas use embellishment and color to transition these traditional menswear looks handsomely into the 21st Century.

And in case you need another reason to add Krishna Mehta to your designer radar, there’s her activism. Her block printing organization teaches disabled individuals the art of hand printing and embroidery so they can gain employment closer to home. Talk about fashion with a conscience.

To be honest, the pictures simply do not do this luscious collection justice. Take a moment and watch the video to get swept away by Kirshna Mehta.

Paris Fashion Week 2012 – Best Fall/Winter 2012 Collections

Now that the glamour and drama of Paris Fashion Week 2012 is over, we’ve got a brand new list of fashion inspirations to carry us through Fall 2012. Here are Luxemi’s picks for the most gorgeous – and surprising – collections at 2012 Paris Fashion Week.

Our pick for the best ready-to-wear collection goes to Chanel, whose Fall/Winter 2012 looks show exactly why textures and knits are always in style. The legendary design house filled its runway show with gray woolen coats and dark, fitted dresses, each embellished gorgeously with gems or shiny appliques. What stood out about the collection was its use of layering to create volume – it’s an accessible, fashion-forward style anyone could recreate using pieces from their closets.

We’d love to own any of Chanel’s gorgeous tailored jackets, but our favorite look from the collection is definitely this stunning metallic amethyst-inspired dress with chic lace sleeves. This icy gem-tone dress hits just the right balance between flash and feathers, and its chic textured stripe effect makes a sophisticated impact. Judging by some other amazing metallic purple and black looks in the Chanel collection, this color pairing is going to be super chic in Fall/Winter 2012.

No collection at Paris Fashion Week 2012 came close to matching the beauty of Christian Dior’s Fall/Winter 2012 collection. With luscious silk, ethereal sheer fabrics and classic feminine silhouettes, Dior created a collection of gowns that every girl would love to wear. Although colors ranged from blush pink and soft peach to plum and black, the dresses all had a few things in common: Gorgeous draping and perfectly placed embellishments that put a fashion-forward spin on classic silhouettes.

The show-stopping look was by far a blush pink floor-length gown with a sheer nude top, luxurious silk bodice and an airy full skirt that moved so gracefully down the runway. The gown’s movement and shape reminded us of the 1920s inspired Dior gown that Charlize Theron wore at the 2012 Golden Globes — and we’re betting Dior’s Fall 2012 gowns will also be hitting the Red Carpet soon.

We were expecting the Alexander McQueen Fall/Winter 2012 collection to be avante-garde, but we weren’t expecting it to have such an undeniable feminine quality. We instantly fell in love with the collection’s voluminous, airy silhouettes and soft crème, pink and red color palate. Sarah Burton, channeling the spirit of house founder Alexander McQueen, summed up the mushroom-inspired collection like this: “It wasn’t meant to be dark. It was meant to be beautiful.” With delicate hand-cut and dip dyed silk circles meticulously hand sewn throughout these voluminous, high-drama gowns, there was plenty of beauty to go around. And did we mention the chic, handmade boots paired with each look?

For Luxemi, the standout of the Alexander McQueen line was this vibrant coral and orange mini-dress that puts a chic spin on the peplum waist we’ve been spotting all over runways lately. With a flirty voluminous skirt and funky, feathered shoes, this dress would instantly infuse some fun into a gloomy fall or winter night!

Do you love Paris Fashion Week as much as Luxemi does? Is there a Fall 2012 collection you can’t live without? Luxemi always wants to hear about the fashion that captivates you!
