With all the fashion shows and jewelry weeks going on, August was a busy month for Indian fashionistas. Did you miss Delhi Couture Week 2012 somewhere between Lakme Fashion Week and India International Jewellery Week? Here are three couture collections that should definitely be on your radar this season.
Sabyasachi Mukherjee
We’re definitely digging the unique point of view Sabyasachi Mukherjee brought to couture week. The designer went retro by styling these looks with big glasses, sleek bun hairstyles and minimal makeup. The 1920s-inspired bows and collars on these dresses give them a hint of flapper glam, while the draping and silhouettes make the designer’s Indian heritage shine. We’re loving this textured knee-length jacket and red velvet pants, and the red gown with an oversized bow and saree-inspired draping. And we can’t forget the Sabyasachi saree Sri Devi rocked to open the show!
Varun Bahl
Between the fiery red looks and his night-ready, sophisticated purple and blue ones, Varun Bahl’s Delhi Couture Week collection could have easily looked like two separate lines. But then you notice the sheer detailing in every piece, and it all comes together. Whether it’s the sheer bodice on his red and gold lehenga or the sheer shoulders on his sequined boat neck blouse, the beauty in Varun Bahl’s couture looks is the mix of sensuality and sophistication. Classic Indian jewelry, bold red lipstick and sleek up-dos add the perfect touch of glamour to these runway looks.
JJ Valaya
Brocade has been a major trend in Western style this season, but JJ Valaya’s Delhi Couture Week 2012 collection definitely reminded us why this technique was made for Indian fashion! JJ’s meticulous metallic embroidery radiates from every angle, making these updated sarees and lehengas the ultimate lesson in contemporary luxury. We love his floor-length coats for Fall 2012 — especially paired with a long, sheer skirt and fire red pants. And don’t get us started on how sleek and modern his coppery zigzag brocade jacket looks with that black sequin dress.
Whether it’s Sabyasachi’s retro vibe or Varun Bahl’s undeniable sophistication, these Delhi Couture Week 2012 collections are full of fashion imagination.
