Katrina Kaif’s Top 5 Desi Looks

Katrina Kaif Style File

It’s hard to look beyond a face as pretty and angelic as Katrina Kaif’s. Let’s be honest, she could wear a sack and make it work! No wonder this British beauty keeps her sartorial choices simple and fuss-free, letting that fresh face of hers do all the talking.

While sheath dresses, solid colours (with a major partiality towards black and white), comfortable sweaters and simple tops are her trusty staples, she does indulge us desi girls with quintessential Indian looks every now and then too.

It’s easy to spot a pattern though. She heavily favors clean, simple hues with a hint of pop and lots of Manish Malhotra. No draped drama for this lady—she is a purveyor of old-school cuts and silhouettes. Think floor-length anarkalis, traditional saris and lehenagas. Considering how much we love new-age, avant-garde Indian wear, we’ve got zero complaints here. We round up some of her top desi looks. We approve, and we’re sure you will too!

Go For Glam

Hello gorgeous! How beautiful is this unabashedly glamorous dull gold Manish Malhotra lehenga with a hint of pink and red? We especially love the hangings on the blouse. It helps that head-to-toe gold is a trend du jour too.

Luxemi pick: Steal her look with our Gold Cutwork and Crystal Mukesh Saree.

Coral Wonder

What makes this otherwise simple salwar work is the positioning of the slit. This look goes to show that a simple tweak to a same ’ol outfit can make all the impact. We love that she went easy on the jewelry and let her ensemble do all the talking.

Luxemi pick: Skip the gold churidaar and team this Orange Salwar with Asymmetrical Hem by Nikasha with cigarette pants in the same color.

Shine On

Katrina Kaif in this Manish Malhotra shows that one should never underestimate the power of a sequined sari. From your BFF’s wedding to a cocktail party, it will come to your rescue on many occasions. The addition of a contrasting color blouse really elevates her look.

Luxemi pick: Our Red Screen Print with Gold Sequins by Satya Paul fits the bill.

Black Beauty

This Anamika Khanna look is a classic case of elegance in simplicity. The addition of the cutwork jacket takes the floor-length kurta a few notches higher, giving it a slightly Indo-western feel. Add statement earrings to take it next level.

Luxemi pick: Give the dupatta a miss and wear our Georgette Salwar with Gold Foil Print with a gold bolero or vest that you already own. It could even be a high street buy!

Code Blue

This floor length jacket teamed with a lehenga in all about understated, royal grace in our books. It is an impactful look without screaming for attention and can easily be emulated for a winter wedding.

Luxemi pick: How about wearing our Chiffon Jacket with Gold Embellishment by Kisneel with a voluminous skirt in the same color or gold, perhaps?

Luxemi’s ‘One Outfit Two Ways’ guide

So in a bid to play your sartorial saviors, Luxemi has put together a fun guide for you – one that allows you to wear the same traditional ensembles in utterly distinct ways every single time. Trust us when we say that these easy tips will instantly catapult your outfit into a brand new one and allow you to stand out in a crowd of run-of-the-mill ensembles. After all, we do believe in twice as nice!

Yes, we all love a pretty anarkali, but we believe in changing it up every once in a while. There’s no better way to do that than by jumping onto the latest bandwagon in fashiondom – sharara pants over churidars.

Tangerine anarkali worn with Kisneel sharara pants

Pair our tangerine anarkali with these sharara pants from Kisneel

While you can definitely wear our tangerine salwar with aqua embellishments in the conventional way, don’t be afraid of trying something different for a fresh new look. Swap the churidars for these blush blue sharara pants by Kisneel which will complement the vibrant anarkali beautifully. You can even skip the dupatta and go OTT with the accessories instead. Flaunt this accentuated style at a mehndi, dinner party or even a sangeet!

The hottest trend to have sealed its fate on fashion’s wall of fame is pairing lehengas with jackets for a more structured look.

Laila Motwane neon lehenga worn with an angarakha

Pair Laila Motwane’s neon lehenga with an angarakha from Luxemi’s collection

Wear our neon gota work lehenga by Laila Motwane but with an unexpected twist. Pair it with this coral angrakha with velvet and gota embellishments for a look that will instantly give you the reputation of a sartorial risk taker. You can go sans the dupatta with this one, and elevate the attire with a charming head piece and statement earrings. The fresh colors make it perfect for a day time or afternoon function. Go a step further and have some fun with your hair-do as well, a fish tail braid might just do the trick!

Buck the blouse

How many times have you worn a lehenga the regular way? More than you can remember, right? Luxemi has a fresh new style you can try out. When you’re bored of the usual style, skip the cropped blouse and opt for a long anarkali-esque top instead with your lehenga.

Try out this trend with our scarlet and purple gota work lehenga by Laila Motwane which can be teamed with our sequined gold anarkali for an unusual spin. Throw on a simple red dupatta for a casual event or dress up the look with the heavily embellished dupatta. A beautiful kundan set is the only finishing flourish the look needs. This look is ornate enough for even the bride to wear for one of her wedding functions.

So go on, embrace Luxemi’s ‘One Outfit Two Ways’ guide and be the belle of the next ball you attend!

Best Bollywood Style – Fashion Inspired By Bipasha Basu, Katrina Kaif + Malaika Arora

If there’s one thing Bollywood is known for, it’s vibrant, spirited opulence, so it’s no surprise that Bollywood actresses have a penchant for festive designer fashion when they hit the Red Carpet. If your Indian wardrobe could use a little glamour, let Luxemi help you get the Bollywood look!

Bipasha Basu has been a Bollywood Red Carpet mainstay since her 2001 Filmfare Award-winning role in Ajnabee, so we’ve had a lot of chances to see this celeb’s sensual style evolve. One of our favorite Bipasha looks is definitely this sunny Yashraj saree she wore on the Super Star Awards Red Carpet. With shiny foil and pearl embellishments and a chic contrast border, Luxemi’s Yellow Georgette Saree with Brocade and Pearl Border bears a striking resemblance to this Bipasha Red Carpet look!

Another major Bollywood style trendsetter is Katrina Kaif, who we recently spotted wearing this bold pink saree with a Gladiator-inspired gota border. You can get the same strong look by rocking Luxemi’s Navy and Pink Georgette Border Saree, which features a wide, heavily embellished gota border and gorgeous fabric that shifts from red to fuchsia to navy blue.

Actress and dancer Malaika Arora always brings a unique fashion style to Bollywood events, but we love her most when she takes a twist on the traditional. Malaika made major fashion waves when she wore this purple, red and white Laila Motwane creation. (Full disclosure: Laila Motwane is one of our absolute favorite lehenga designers!) You’ll make the same ethnic impact as Malaika Arora when you wear Luxemi’s Scarlet and Purple Lehenga with Gota Work by Laila Motwane. This designer lehenga has it all: intricate gota work, striking contrast borders, and a chic color pairing only Laila Motwane could dream up.

Whether you’re hitting the Red Carpet or just want to infuse some excitement into your wardrobe, Luxemi has the perfect look for you. Check out our collection for more sarees, lehengas and salwars that will reinvigorate you and your wardrobe!
