New York fashion week is one of those phrases that conjures up thoughts of highly stylized women in towering heels, fashion gliteratti air-kissing whilst holding glasses of champagne, endless parties hosted by the newest “it” girl, and 10 minute runway shows that suddenly make your life feel very pedestrian because you can’t think of a single place to wear these outfits even if you could afford to. Well, we’re here to tell you that all of those thoughts are entirely valid — but don’t worry, we’ve endured the blisters and late night parties (torture, we know!) to give you our take on NYFW, Luxemi-style.

Showing up looking anything less than tres chic is a fashion week faux pas. From the models rocking their “MOD” looks (models off duty) to the street style celebs bringing their fashion A-game, one thing is certain: you must be camera ready at all times. That’s why we’re  grateful to BirchBox and their amazing team for putting together a beauty lounge at the ultra swanky Soho House. Between hairdos by Ojon and Shu Umera, makeup by Lancome, and nails by Color Club, we could face the camera at any angle even if we did stay out past our bedtime.

You may have seen our previous post on the Naeem Khan FW 2013 collection, but we didn’t show you everything. We were lucky enough to get a front row seat, and we definitely had one of those “pedestrian moments” mentioned above. From embroidered caftans to beaded separates, every single piece was pure perfection. The crowd was clearly into it, as evidenced by the audible gasps from even the most jaded fashion showgoers. The standing ovation at the end pretty much said it all!

And just between us, sometimes the best show is off the ramp. Check out Vanessa Hudgens, Brooke Shields, Matt Damon, & Shay Williams sitting front row. What do you think Vanessa and Shay are texting about?

Bibhu Mohapatra is one of those names on everyone’s lips, and for good reason. After leaving a Design Director post at J.Mendel, Bibhu started his own label that blends the best of Indian textiles with glamorous evening wear. Influenced by Man Ray’s photographs and nods to Dada and Bauhaus, Bibhu’s collection was very reminiscent of the 1930s with the use of sumptuous fabrics, jewel-toned furs accents and graphic prints. Our favorite piece? It’s a tie between the gold broadtail and raccoon coat and the gold sport crepe draped shoulder gown.

So…who’s inviting us to a fabulous party?!

Speaking of fabulous parties, we had the pleasure of stopping by celebrity stylist Jason Bolden’s capsule shoe collection for Brazilian shoe company Schutz. You already know we appreciate a good shoe, and Bolden’s didn’t disappoint. What else does a fashion party need, you ask? How about uber designers Rachel Roy & Alexander Birman, and Academy Award nominated actress Taraji P. Henson?

Golden Globes 2013 Best Dressed – Jennifer Lawrence, Anne Hathaway + More!

If there’s one thing we love about awards season, it’s checking out the gorgeous dresses walking down the Red Carpet. Here are our picks for the best dressed celebrities at the 2013 Golden Globe Awards.

best dressed golden globes 2013

This year, a lot of our fav leading ladies took the words “Red Carpet” literally, rocking vibrant tomato red hues that commanded major attention. Claire Danes, who we love in Homeland, wore a stunning Versace dress with a halter neckline and a sequined brooch. Zooey Deschanel also rocked red, taking her retro style up a notch with a strapless Oscar de la Renta dress and Old Hollwood-esque pearl accessories.

We’re also loving the two red strapless Dior gowns on the Red Carpet: Jennifer Lawrence’s belted look, which she showed off when she accepted the win for Best Lead Actress; and Marion Cotillard’s custom red velvet Dior gown. Want to add a little star power to your wardrobe? Check out Luxemi’s red looks!

Red was definitely the color of the night, but we also spotted a lot of purple and white. Lena Dunham wore a dark purple Zac Posen gown, which had an almost identical hue to Taylor Swift’s Donna Karan Atelier look. Luxemi’s purple sarees will help you capture this Red Carpet trend.

We love color as much as the next girl, but we couldn’t help but swoon over Anne Hathaway’s all-white Chanel dress as she accepted the award for Best Supporting Actress. She’s yet another reason we love winter white!

It wouldn’t be a Red Carpet without Naeem Khan. We were so excited to see Nicole Richie, one of our favorite Indian fashion fans, wear a floor-length baby blue sequin dress by Naeem Khan. With other stars opting for bold reds and purples, it was refreshing to see this splash of pastel mixing it up! Also in Naeem Khan was Don Draper’s one and only, Jennifer Westfeldt. She finished her look with TACORI jewelry.

Now that the Golden Globes is over, that means it’s almost time for the ultimate Red Carpet show: the Oscars. Be sure to back with the Luxe Report for our 85th Annual Academy Awards fashion recap!

Cannes Film Festival 2012 Fashion – Who Wore The Look Best?

With 12 days of movie premiers, after parties, pre-parties and every other type of party under the sun, the 2012 Cannes Film Festival was one extended Red Carpet affair. Here are the major trends we spotted during Cannes and our pick for which celebrity rocked the look best.

Flowing One-Shoulder Gown: Diane Kruger vs. Nicole Kidman

When Diane Kruger stepped onto the Cannes Red Carpet on Day One wearing a gauzy, ethereal mint green Giambattista Valli, she definitely set the festival’s fashion tone. We love the Indian influence in the gown’s one-shoulder cut and saree-esque draping. And with pastels trending for summer, Diane’s dress is both classic and timely.

At the premier of her film The Paperboy, Nicole Kidman wore a goddess gown with airy draping similar in style to Diane’s dress. The standout feature of this blush pink Lanvin dress? The crystal-studded chain that acts as a shoulder strap wrapping all the way around the back of the backless gown.

Sheer Black Evening Gown: Eva Longoria vs. Freida Pinto

The A-Listers went all out during the Cannes Opening Night Dinner — and in the case of Eva Longoria and Freida Pinto, that meant sheer black evening gowns. Eva opted for a sleeveless, floor-length Alberta Ferretti gown with black and white vertical detailing and all-over black mesh. Whereas Eva’s dress was all about mesh and lace, we love how Freida’s Versace gown used gorgeous sequins and beading to create drama. The sheer long sleeves and neckline of Freida’s dress made it a complete showstopper. (And did we mention that it also features a thigh-high slit, a look that’s been trending ever since Angeline Jolie rocked it at the Oscars?)

Luxe pick: Freida Pinto in Versace

Thigh-High Slit: Jada Pinkett Smith vs. Freida Pinto

summer 2012 trends cannes thing high slit

Thigh-high slits were everywhere on the Cannes Red Carpet, but two ladies took the look to the next level by pairing the daring cut with punchy neon color palates.

Jada Pinkett Smith pulled out all the stops at the Madagascar 3 premier, wearing a neon orange Versace gown with a powerful, Gladiator-esque gold border along its neckline. And if the dress’ backless cut wasn’t enough to turn heads, its thigh-high slit certainly did the job.

We spotted another Altier Versace gown with a prominent slit on Freida Pinto. The Slumdog Millionaire actress’ apple green gown on Day Two was the perfect mix of skin and sophistication. We love how the dress has a high-cut neckline and girly lace bodice to keep the daring super-high slit looking tasteful.

Long Train: Naomi Watts vs. Eva Longoria

summer 2012 trends long train cannes

When it comes to the elaborate Marchesa gown showdown, it’s a close call. Naomi Watts looked absolutely ethereal in her retro beige Marchesa number. Between its fanciful feather detailing and extended tulle train, this short-sleeved gown made major impact. Her flapper-inspired finger waive hairdo was the perfect touch.

Eva also worked the Red Carpet in a heavily embellished Marchesa gown during Tuesday’s screening of Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom. We couldn’t stop awing at the gown’s six-foot train and gorgeous hand-appliqued crystals. And it’s definitely a bonus that it looked as intricate from the back as it did the front.

Luxe pick: Eva Longoria in Marchesa

Polka Dots: Sonam Kapoor vs. Jessica Chastain

summer 2012 trends polka dots celebrity

Cannes was all about the stunning sequins this year, but two fashionistas opted for polka dot prints: Sonam Kapoor and Jessica Chastain. Although the volume of Sonam’s Naeem Khan gown was a little too much for our liking, the dress had gorgeous saree-inspired draping and an artistic polka dot pattern that saved it from being a fashion miss. It was definitely one of our favorite Sonam outfits from Cannes this year, balancing youth and sophistication in a way only Naeem Khan can pull off.

Jessica Chastain went with a playful polka dot print during the photo call for Madagascar 3. Her knee-length Dolce & Gabbana dress was a perfect pick for summertime daywear, but on the Red Carpet, it felt a little underwhelming. Cute, just not Cannes-worthy.

Luxe pick: Sonam Kapoor in Naeem Khan

What were your favorite looks from Cannes? Did you spot any Indian-inspired silhouettes on the Red Carpet? Luxemi loves hearing what celeb looks have you head over heels!
