With a new year of fashion just around the corner, Luxemi has been doing a lot of reminiscing about our favorite fashion trends of the last 12 months. Here are the 2012 trends we couldn’t live without.

Florals

From the moment this trend started blooming, Luxemi was totally enthralled with all things floral. Whether it was Valentino’s flowery romance or Proenza Schouler’s modern, graphic take on floral, we loved seeing how our fave designers put their touch on this staple print.

Luxemi’s take: Our Floral Cotton Gota Salwar features gorgeous embroidered flowers that add a soft touch to this Indian shift dress’ stunning magenta hue.

Burgundy

In case you haven’t noticed, burgundy (also called oxblood or wine) is definitely the “it” color for Fall and Winter 2012. With designers like Jason Wu, Zac Posen and Tibi bringing this hue front and center in high-impact runway collections, burgundy has been on every girl’s fashion radar — including ours!

Memorable moments: Jason Wu’s killer burgundy coats, which totally stole the show at New York Fashion Week.

Luxemi’s take: With fine metallic embroidery and a rich red hue, Luxemi’s Scarlett Saree with Rich Gold Border will make you the belle of this season’s burgundy ball.

Neon Everything

Pantone’s Color of the Year was Tangerine Tango, but given the amount of highlighter yellow we spotted on runways, Red Carpets and the streets in our favorite fashion cities, it was definitely the summer of neon.

We fell in love when we saw designers like Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs and Dolce & Gabbana work metallic brocade into their runway looks for Fall 2012. It’s an opulent, Indian-inspired touch that made a major splash in both the East and West this year.

Memorable moments: Dolce & Gabbana’s black, crème and gold brocade collection (especially those knee-high brocade boots!).

This is one trend we don’t see going anywhere anytime soon!

Memorable moments: Michelle Williams’ vintage bow brooch at the 2012 Oscars and Nicole Richie’s deco headband love affair.

Fall 2012 Fashion Trend – Opulent Brocade for Autumn

Don’t get us wrong: we’re loving the warm, sunny weather, the sandals and the endless summer blockbusters (how psyched are you for The Dark Knight Rises?). But the brocade trend from Fall 2012 fashion weeks has us dreaming of the cooler months ahead. With designers from Marc Jacobs to Louis Vuitton stitching metallic brocade accents into their Fall 2012 looks, an opulent autumn is definitely in the forecast.

When we saw Jason Wu’s elaborate brocade separates and Proenza Schouler’s Japan-inspired brocade silhouettes shimmer down the runway at New York Fashion Week Fall 2012, we knew this was a trend we were going to revisit. Then we saw gorgeous brocade from Jill Stuart, Yves Saint Laurent and Rebecca Minkoff. Consider us sold.

We loved how Marchesa put its signature feminine touch on gold embroidery in its Fall 2012 collection, but our vote for best brocade is Dolce & Gabbana. One look at the gold, black and white embellishments in these couture dresses, and your inner Indian fashionista will be smitten, too! (And did we mention the fabulous brocade knee boots that hit the runway during the D&G Fall 2012 show?)broc

Channel the liquid gold of Marchesa’s fall line in Luxemi’s Brocade Salwar with Cutout Applique. This sophisticated salwar has classic cap sleeves and a deep v neckline that make it a perfect go-to piece for autumn. Add in luscious brocade fleur de lys motifs and you have a timeless salwar that’s never been more fashion-forward than in Fall 2012.

We’re also loving the rich color palate on this Red and Gold Brocade Salwar. With contrasting gold brocade work that highlights your silhouette, this three-quarter-length sleeve salwar is the epitome of brocade at its bold, beautiful best.

And there’s nothing more versatile – or stunning – than a brocade blouse. With fine embroidered dots and a high-quality front closure, Luxemi’s Black Brocade Blouse by Wild Orchid is the crème de la crème.

Brocade is definitely one trend worth remembering from Fall 2012 fashion weeks. Be sure to check back with the Luxe Report over the next few weeks for more Fall 2012 trend alerts

Dare To Bare Your Midriff – Trend Alert + Summer Promotion

Summer 2012 is all about showing a little skin, and we’ve got just the trend to help you do it: the bare midriff. With designers from Versace to Proenza Schouler and celebrities from Freida Pinto to Rihanna putting a chic, tasteful spin on the cutoff top, there’s a whole new set of reasons to rock your favorite Indian blouse.

When it comes to the midriff, no designer does it better than Dolce & Gabbana. By pairing structured midriff blouses with 1950s-inspired high-waisted skirts, the design powerhouse gives a softer, totally tasteful edge to the tummy-baring bustier. Spring Summer 2012 collections from Versace, Preen, Proenza Schouler and Emilio Pucci all play up the midriff, pairing the crop top with a variety of separates.

Where designers go, celebrities always follow. Gwyneth Paltrow wore a stunning, black beaded Emilio Pucci skirt and blouse to the Emmy Awards, Kate Bosworth recently bared her tummy in a Proenza Schouler look, and Freida Pinto rocked a nautical-inspired midriff top and matching A-line skirt at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. (And did you see her recent midriff-baring photo spread in Flaunt Magazine?) But our favorite variation of this summer trend is definitely pairing a midriff top with trousers for a more casual look, a style we’ve spotted on Rihanna, Kristen Stewart and Jennifer Lopez.

Every Indian fashionista knows that a chic blouse is one of the best ways to spice up a saree or salwar, but Summer 2012 is the perfect time to give your brocade blouse a Western spin. Luxemi’s Black Brocade Blouse by White Orchid has stunning gold brocade work, a deep-V neckline and a length that’s perfect for pairing with a high-waisted skirt or pants.

For a more casual look, we love matching the blouse with this ASOS Peplum Waist Skirt, which has a modest knee length that keeps this look on-par with runway trends. And for a night out, this Marc Jacobs Brocade Prairie Skirt provides just the right pop of color and brocade work to contrast gorgeously with the blouse. Luxemi also loves pairing this brocade blouse with a classic pair of black pants like these Tuxedo Wide Leg Trousers from Viktor & Rolf. By going with a wide-leg cut with your trousers, you’ll balance out the form-fitting cut of the blouse for a fresh, sophisticated look.

Summer 2012 Trend – Neon Yellow Everything

Tangerine Tango may be Pantone’s official color of 2012, but we’ve been seeing a whole lot of neon yellow hitting runways, Red Carpets and street style lately. Here’s how to incorporate this “it” summer color into your Indian wardrobe

neon colors runway trend

A color as punchy as highlighter yellow is impossible to ignore, so it’s no surprise that the neon hue received a ton of attention during Spring 2012 runway shows. Designers from Oscar de la Renta to Jason Wu took a bold step into 1980s territory by featuring bright yellow in their spring collections. One of the first neon yellow looks we can remember spotting is this strapless ball gown from Jason Wu’s Spring 2012 RTW collection, which is devoid of all embellishments save a simple black bow.

Which other designers have neon yellow looks in their 2012 collections? Two of our favorites, Proenza Schouler and Diane von Furstenberg, put a futuristic spin on the trend by mixing the highlighter hue with solid and print panels. One standout for us is this tailored, figure-flattering sheath dress with black side panels, chic buttons and a swatch of turquoise zebra print fabric that really ups the dress’ visual interest.

This runway trend has also transitioned to Hollywood, with high-profile celebs like Jennifer Lopez (pictured in Michael Kors) wearing neon yellow outfits on TV and out on the town.

And at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival last week, Freida Pinto rocked a neon yellow Atelier Versace dress, which was a gutsy look not just because of the bright color, but because of the thigh-high slit! If you’re looking for a lacy neon dress reminiscent of Freida Pinto’s, this Neon Lace Flippy Dress is affordable, cute, and a perfect anytime look.

Neon yellow, India street style

If you’re an Indian fashionista looking to punch up your saree wardrobe, neon yellow is a fabulous way to display your bold personality. Not only does neon yellow look gorgeous on Indian skin tones, but it also is perpetually in vogue in India! If you’ve ever visited Rajasthan, you’ll notice that bright, bold colors are the norm in Indian street wear.

This Neon Green Cotton and Silk Saree by Neeru Kumar features gorgeous Zari work and an old-meets-new quality that makes it ideal for dressing up or wearing as is. And like the Jason Wu gown or Jennifer Lopez’s Michael Kors dress, this saree relies on color, not embellishments, to make a statement.

For a neon saree that features color blocking (also in for Summer 2012!), Luxemi has this gorgeous Printed Crepe Silk Saree by Satya Paul. This luscious saree has tropical summer vacation written all over it. Our favorite part? How soft this silk feels against your skin.

And to finish off your neon yellow look, always go for bright lipstick. Luxemi’s favorite shade of the moment? Heat Wave by Nars.

There’s no wrong way to wear neon yellow for Summer 2012. Whether you’re rocking a Jason Wu ball gown or a Luxemi saree, you’ll be sure to command attention in this punchy summer hue.

Spring & Summer 2012 Trend – Floral Prints

Spring is blooming all around us, including in our closets. Roses, daffodils, daisies and orchids are by far the biggest fashion trend of Spring 2012, popping up in designer collections from Prada to Prabal Gurung and Dolce & Gabbana to Valentino. Here’s our take on the best florals of Spring 2012.

Indian inspired floral looks from runway designers 2012

As soon as the Spring 2012 Oscar de la Renta line hit the runway, the fashion world was swooning over its standout look, a romantic, vintage-inspired strapless gown with poppies and daffodils decorating its bodice and full skirt. Paired with a twiggy, flowered headpiece, this nostalgic look updates 1960s flower power for the modern fashionista.

Another design powerhouse to create floral romance is Valentino. Valentino’s Spring 2012 Collection features too many beautiful dresses to mention, but one memorable look was a wispy long-sleeve knee-length gown featuring an ethereal rose silk fabric that will be just as sophisticated decades from now.

best flirty bold floral prints celebrity indian designers 2012

One reason we love the floral trend is that it offers a ton of versatility. Valentino’s line went romantic with flowers, but other designers used florals in a vibrant, flirty way. Case in point? Proenza Schouler, whose mixed floral separates are punchy and super modern, Prabal Gurung, whose mix of blazers and blouses feature a bold purple floral print, and Altuzarra, who uses an edgy blend of leather and Hawaiian-style flowers.

The floral trend is also springing up on some of our favorite celebs. Kudos to Sonam Kapoor for looking both elegant and flirty in this floral and onion dress from Dolce & Gabbana’s Spring 2012 Ready To Wear line. Other A-Listers who love florals: Jessica Alba, Shailene Woodly and Beyonce.

To snag your own whimsy floral look, Luxemi loves this Tonal Anarkali with Floral Gota Work. What makes this anarkali so stunning? The way its designer used gota work to make these flower motifs both intricate and bold. This look has the same soft tones as a lot of the standout gowns in Valentino’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection (which isn’t surprising, considering pastels and sorbet tones are also making a comeback this season).

For a punchier floral that features a brighter color palate, try this Floral Cotton Gota Salwar. This light and airy salwar has embroidered flowers winding perfectly around its seams, a style used in a lot of our favorite Oscar de la Renta Spring 2012 looks.

And if you want the ultimate artisan floral saree, this Handknit Flower and Rich Pearl Saree is breathtaking. Hand-knit red and pink flower blooms wrap gorgeously around this piece’s high-quality netting, and delicate pearl work gives the piece a haute couture feel. It’s romantic, unique, and the epitome of why florals are the perfect look for spring!

Whether it’s Proenza Schouler’s flirty florals or Valentino’s sophisticated blooms, Luxemi loves how flower prints merge Mother Nature with runway fashion. There’s no better time to let your inner flower power shine!
